The Tractor, the ultimate workhorse, is a 2 or 4-wheeled driven or tracked vehicle with greater than 20 engine horsepower.  It's job is to provide the power to pull, carry, propel, or drive agricultural implements, such as trailers, bowsers, power harrows, flail mowers and balers.

On passing the course you will have achieved the CPCS Trained Operator (red) card, which demonstrates that you have been trained to operate the machine safely and efficiently.  CPCS is the most widely recognised construction card in the UK and the benchmark standard for most large construction sites.

If you already hold the 'Red' card we can advise on how to get your  Competent Operator or 'Blue' card and for 'Blue' card holders we can advise on renewing.

Courses Available:

  • Experienced – this course includes a theory prep session and then the test day and is specifically for experienced operators who have the experience with the tractor and now need the ticket to demonstrate that.

  • Intermediate - this course if operators with little to no experience with the tractor but does have experience with reversing trailers or has an aptitude for such activities.

  • Novice - this course is intended for operators with no experience driving tractors or reversing with trailers.

Please note all operators will still require a driving license (category B or category F) to drive a tractor on a public highway.

Operators are able to book just the test day. We strongly advise however that the candidate visits the NOCN Jobcards website to familiarise themselves with the theory and practical test requirements.

Pre-course Requirements

Delegates must have passed the appropriate NOCN CPCS or CITB Health, Safety and Environment Test. This must have been taken no more than 2 years before the test day.

Course Includes:

  • Roles and responsibilities.

  • Pre-use checks/inspection.

  • Configure and prepare for travelling on site or highway.

  • Travel over varied terrain and inclines and manoeuvre in confined spaces with both mounted and trailed implements.

  • Attach and set mounted and trailed implements and PTO driven implements ready for work.

  • Operate a mounted and PTO driven implement.

  • Safe shut down and secure.

The Technical Test has two parts:

  • Theory Test – This is a verbal question and answer test which is recorded. This needs to be achieved before attempting the practical test.

  • Practical Test – This is a manual test to assess operating ability on the tractor to ensure the required standard to receive your CPCS Red Trained Operator Card is achieved.

The red card, which is only valid for 2-years, is just the first step towards blue card.  During that two year period you need to work towards achieving the relevant NVQ.  Once this has been awarded then the blue card can be applied for.  The blue card is valid for five years and is renewable.

We are also able to deliver the Plant Pro Operator Certificate if CPCS is not necessary.  This is on-site training can be delivered at the customer’s location in Sussex, Surrey, Hampshire or the South East for flexibility and cost-effectiveness.
